LO: To understand how the editing of different shots can create and change the meaning of a scene and a film

- Editing is selecting, combining and ordering shots to add meaning and continuity  

Elements Of Editing

• Cutting
• Transitions
• Pace and length of the shot
• Rhythm
• CGI and animation

Cutting

• Cutting on action (match on action) - Cutting on action is what you cut the clip on, so if you were on a fight scene you could cut it at a punch or you could even do it on something as simple as someone turning around.
• Cut away - When it shows a shot and it cuts away to something related to that shot and back to the original shot.
• Cross cutting (Parallel editing) - Where it cuts between two different scenes that are happening at the same time, it is usually used in a scene with a phone call.
• Straight cut - It is basic cut from one scene to another with no transitions.
• Jump cut - When the camera doesn't move but something has changed in the scene.
• Match cut (Graphic match) - Cuts from one scene to another where either the action is the same or the composition is the same.
• Eye line match - When it cuts between someone looking at something and then to the something its looking at.
• Shot reverse shot - Is used to show the dialogue or conversation of 2 or more people.
• Montage - Is usually used to show stuff that happens over a period of time, usually to show people training for something. 

Transitions

• Fade in / Fade out - When a scene dissolves into black or white to show that time has passed 
• Wipe - To show it moves between scenes more to show a definite change of place 

How has editing been used to create tension in the hot fuzz battle scene?

In part one when he was in the fields by the old man and women, to start off it was very peaceful which builds up tension until the police officer comes along. This is where a little battle scene comes along and they use a lot of cutting on action. After when he starts preparing for the main battle they use a montage to create tension, instead of just showing him loading a gun they show him loading multiple guns quickly.
