So at the moment major roadworks are underway in the centre of Bodmin. The roadworks are due to last at least 14 months.
So far the roadworks have lasted 6 months and have already affected many people inside and outside of Bodmin.
The council have put in plans to create a shared space area in the centre of the town. The idea of this shared space area is to prevent traffic in the centre of the town and to allow pedestrians and cars to be together, however many people disagree with the idea.
The roadworks shut down the entire centre of the town, leaving many diversions and the centre of the town in chaos. The roadworks have also reduced the amount of people visiting Bodmin making less customers for shops. This has reduced the amount of money made and the shops have been forced to close.

Not only have the roadworks been in the centre of Bodmin, they have also happened in other places in the town. The other places are Higher Bore Street, Launceston Road, St Nicholas Street and Dennison Road.
At higher bore street they are putting in a cycle trail from the camel trail. Many people think the changes that are being made are putting pedestrians in danger, due to the traffic lights being removed and crossing islands.

Here we have a diagram of the roadworks showing where the roadworks are. The roadworks have mostly affected the centre of Bodmin, and as you can see they have created many diversions which affects the people living next to the diversions. Due to all the traffic on these diversions it does not allow residents to get to their houses easily.
However, many people agree with the idea of creating a shared space area. The benefits that the plan will give is that it will create less traffic in the centre of Bodmin. Even though the roadworks will take a long time, the traffic reductions will be worth the wait. The plan is actually one of 13 schemes in the building a better Bodmin plan. These 13 plans have been put in plan to decrease the traffic however of course the consequences of the wait are not very good, as you can see. The wait though will be worth it. The news Cormac has also released is that they are ahead of the schedule, meaning that they are planned to finish 2 weeks early.
(Interview)
Now we have an interview with a council worker that has put forward into the plans.

Now we have an interview with a local that has been affected by the roadworks

So the roadworks are due to last 14 months, will it help the town or not? Now we go back to the studio.

A comprehensive report boys. Well done.
ReplyDeleteWWW - you've included lots of details.
NTT - make sure you sound neutral (unbiased) in your report. Any opinions need to be what other people believe or think and should be balanced out with what the council are trying to achieve.
